in the jungle

this little book caught my eye in the thrift store some while ago due to its happy cover. its written and illustrated by 7-years old Ileana Holmboe in 1944. she won a competition for children by the Danish publisher Rosendahl & Jørgensen and had her contribution published. her colourful, naïve drawings make us smile, and i love that the book is printed with her fantastic 1944-7-years-old-handwriting. the story is a jungle adventure, and the tiger is just as cruel as the drawing shows but everything has a happy ending.

anemone

From today's visit at the aquarium. We finally went and there was still an awful lot of people there, it must have been terrible in the opening days - but the girls liked it, they both touched a crab, the seals were so cute, and I was captivated by these beautiful sea anemones.

Rop van Mierlo - Wild Animals

Molly had this wonderful book as a Christmas present. It's perfect for her age, and I love the simple act of a few drips of paint on wet paper that lies behind these soft and tactile animals. I am impressed on how fast Molly's language is developing at the moment. She puts words together in simple sentences and she has developed quite a temper. I love this age where she is more a kid than a baby but still enjoys cuddling and lying close in bed.

indoor play

It has been so dark and rainy lately that we have spent most of our time indoors. But then yesterday, we suddenly had sun and today snow. For a couple of hours the snow lit up a little bit but by now it has almost disappeared. I long for spring, for backyard activities and for days in our Swedish house.

acorns

Little wood acorns from Japanese Kiko. Soft to touch and beautiful to look at, and they can even be used for a necklace or as spinning tops.

last days & first days

The holidays are over. A is back to work, I am writing, the girls had their first day back in kindergarten today, and everything feels quite good. We went to a big party for New Year's Eve with lots of kids, lovely food and fireworks just outside the window. The girls never stayed up for so late before, I think they both loved it, although they were exhausted at the end. I don't like New Year's Eve especially much - but I do love these first days of the new year. I know it's symbolic, but it feels good to enter something new and clear your mind for good, new thoughts. I never make New Year's resolutions, but this year I have one major wish in mind that I don't have much influence on: I hope for less days of illness for little Molly - something that will be good for all of us.

In 2014 we will have something new going on for this space, I am quite excited about it, and I hope soon to show you more.

All the best wishes for all of you that visit us here. You know that I like simple and banal things, and it means alot to me that others care for it too.
