in the jungle

this little book caught my eye in the thrift store some while ago due to its happy cover. its written and illustrated by 7-years old Ileana Holmboe in 1944. she won a competition for children by the Danish publisher Rosendahl & Jørgensen and had her contribution published. her colourful, naïve drawings make us smile, and i love that the book is printed with her fantastic 1944-7-years-old-handwriting. the story is a jungle adventure, and the tiger is just as cruel as the drawing shows but everything has a happy ending.

Ileana Holmboe: "Urskov-Æventyr", Rosendahl & Jørgensen, 1944.

most cosy day of the year

With my mom and my sister's family we have a pre-christmas tradition. Each year in late November we meet from one day to another and all we do is cutting, gluing, painting, talking and eating A's freshly baked waffles. I love this weekend - and so do the kids. This year I was impressed on how focused they were. We sat around that same table for hours and they were all engaged and happy with it.

1. waffles are good
2. my sister with her blonde girls
3. old & young - my mom's patience with the kids is admirable
4. paper ice crystals

birthday painting

A while ago Frida Viola made a huge painting for my mom's birthday. It depicts my mom with Frida Viola and Molly in my mom's garden. A favourite place of the girls. She made it all by her self and was very concentrated about the project but when she had to finish the blue of the sky she ran out of energy. I like it this way with the brown paper as background.

painted leaves

Today's afternoon joy:
painting little creatures on leaves & beautiful plum tart from Nordisk Brødhus (that I can highly recommend!).

How did you spend your Sunday afternoon?

potato printing

Every day the the trees come more and more out. It's so good to be outside again.

Frida Viola and I made the invitations for her birthday party this weekend with potato printed bowties and little cats. We must do more potato prints soon - Frida Viola loved the stamping part, and it is a really easy way to decorate something (and fun to recall my own childhood's creative projects!)

easter vacation

Look at her self-portrait - last photo. She is drawing and drawing - and she is getting good at it.

Have a nice Easter!

handprints

Those of you who are following us here know that we have a tradition for handmade invitations whenever there is an occasion. Molly and I had fun doing these invitations for her 1-year birthday. Of course it's very limited how much a 1-year old can be integrated in creative projects - but handprints are such a classic and cute way to do it.

Here, here, here and here are other invitations we have done.

my home today

1. Yes, we cheated a little and started talking about Christmas already. This is salt dough, though, not real cake - and if you cannot see it, this is baby Jesus with big buttons. Frida Viola made it, and I really like it.
2. Heather.
3. Drawing - very concentrated.
4. The give away is hopefully on it's way to it's new home.
5. I think I will make a garland out of all these hearts.
6.+7. Molly is all over the apartment now - never at her blanket. The blanket, by the way, is a thrift store find some while ago. It needs a little mending here and there, but the colours are so nice.
8. Remember this guy - from last December...?

my home today

1. Frida Viola's chestnut weaving - with a little help she manages to weave on the yarn herself. We have gathered a big bag of chestnuts - good for rainy afternoons.
2-4. Molly is really her own. She doesn't look like any of us, and she does things on her own we didn't learn her. She is already so good at crawling and now she wants to stand up all the time - wonder how it went so fast...? She only just turned 6 months.
5. Essie favourites at the moment.
6. Little knitting book from A's mom - with wonderful (and complicated!) knits for dolls.
