feeling summer

yes, we feel summer now. In the past week we had some Danish holydays. A had his birthday and the girls woke him up with lots of hugs in the morning. We went to Tivoli & we picked the first strawberry flowers in the backyard.

1. Molly has dressed up & reads books. She wants to be big now.
2. She picked me tiny pink strawberry flowers in the backyard.
3. Birthday hugs.
4. "Lune hveder" - a Danish tradition for a special holyday. These were good, with lots of cardamom.
5. & 6. Tivoli.

♥5♥

My sweet big girl is 5 years. It was her birthday Friday, and we have been celbrating her with our family this weekend. She was so excited and now, of course, she is quite exhausted.

For us birthdays and birthday parties means alot of cooking. For her birthday dinner Friday evening Frida Viola chose buckwheat pancakes. Since all of our family come from far away we always make a big lunch to welcome them. We have been baking the beetroot-goatcheese tart several times and it's so good served with salads (I use milk instead of cream, and this time I added lovage from the backyard instead of basil). This cucumber-cilantro salad is also a favourite - I am almost addicted to it - and we also tried out these walnut-ricotta-crostinis, good too.

Frida Viola wanted a "hindbærsnittepige" - a traditional Danish cake with a raspberry filling shaped like a girl, and I also finally tried out the thin oat crisps with ginger & cloves from Greenkitchenstories - and it's not the last time we are going to bake them.

~birds~

Frida Viola is 5 tomorrow and before Easter we spent a cosy afternoon making little heart-bird invitations for her birthday party. I thought I would share them here since they are so easy and quick to make that even small kids can handle the project from start to finish. I only did the writing. We used washi tape as the birds' beaks.

birthday party

This weekend we were celebrating Molly's 2-years birthday with our family.

Frida Viola was busy making papercuts to decorate the table.
She said it was "Easter crystals" (instead of the snowflakes we cut for Christmas).

♥ Molly 2 years ♥

Yesterday we celebrated Molly. 2 years is such an adorable age. she had no expectations and was happy & surprised with everything. Frida Viola chose a baby doll set with bib and baby food as her present and Molly was playing with it all afternoon feeding and nursing her dolls. Who else than her big sister would know what is fun to play with when you are 2 years old? It was a fine day.

kindergarten birthday

Today we celebrated Frida Viola's birthday with her kindergarten. It was the first time they all came home to us, and we were all quite exicted about it. Frida Viola woke up very early this morning, and we decorated her raspberry cake together. The medals are some A and I did very late last night - the queen's false teeth were lost (stolen by Tommy Toothless!) and the kids had to help her find them again. It was a nice and fun day (and Frida Viola was thrilled about the pink hairband she had from one of her little friends).

birthday party

From this weekend's birthday party with the family. The cake with blackberries and white chocolate from this cookbook was really delicious. We are tired now!

pink + sunglasses + new bike = 4 years

Frida Viola is 4 years today! Well, yesterday actually, but she came home fra the camp yesterday in the afternoon - very tired and very happy, and we chose to celebrate her today instead. She had a new bike and a pair of sunglasses - all in pink. And she decided to wear an outfit all in pink and I let her do so (last year her favourite colour was still blue but this year we have surrendered unconditionally to the Pink regime!) We went for a bike ride to the ice cream parlor with her new bike, and she actually drove 2 kilometers each way without problems or discussions.

Finding the right bike has been such a time consuming project. It's so hard to find a nice and good bike for the little ones - and also one that is not totally covered in glitter and way-too-sweet garnish. We ended up with a model from Electra that we were so lucky to find (no too) used. I liked the form of the bike (the colour was not up for discussion), but I did remove the Hawaii stickers and put on another saddle. Frida Viola was thrilled, and she had such a good day.

her first birthday party

Easter vacation has started and yesterday we celebrated Molly's 1-year birthday.
The light is here, but it is still very cold. Our plans were of course to go here during the holidays as usual - but the weather forecast is freezing cold (-15°C at night!), so we are still swinging on the fence.
