On the last day of January

Still cold and crisp outside - but today with the most beautiful sun and blue sky.
Inside a new picture lottery from the thrift store is creating big joy.

This new book with knitted dolls from Arne & Carlos looks nice.

Crisp

This weekend we finally had snow. It looks so fine. I love the douce nuances that everything is rounded with when it's crisp and cold.

Frida Viola is eating blueberry smootie and draws at everything available.

The Bird Collection - Amimono

Helga Isager from Amimono has created a new beautiful knit collection - The Bird Collection.
I love the pale colours and the simplicity. Hope that eventually my mom's aunt will knit a couple of the styles, like these.

Moomin

Looking through old photos I came across these old snapshots from an exhibition with Tove Jansson's original Moomin drawings and sketches A and I saw some years ago, before Frida Viola was born. I didn't bring my camera and the room was very dimly lit (to create a genuine Moomin atmosphere, I guess!), so I only have these cell phone photos. Below is a photo of Tove Jansson from the Moomin website and at bottom a Moomin comic book found in the local thrift store near our Swedish house.

Today we read a lot of Moomin stories and Frida Viola loves the characters. Wish I could go and see the exhibition again with her.

Anemone

1. French anemone - favorite flower at the moment.
2. A simple salad we like making: Finely shopped raw cauliflower (or romanesco as here), apple slices, roasted almonds and dried figs, lots of green leafs, a mustard vinegar and lemon zest. Good.
3. After making the house box for Frida Viola I felt like making more boxes to store all the little things that always make a mess (especially in FV's room). As glue I use this - it's based on water and much easier to use than ordinary wallpaper paste.
4. New plates from the thrift store - and today's lunch :)

If you haven't already, you must check Sisterbrandt's new webshop - so many fine things...

Bobo

I couldn't resist the sale at Crème de la Crème à la Edgar and bought some pieces both for Frida Viola and the baby. The dotted dress and the little bow body from Bobo Choses are especially nice (we don't know if it's going to be a girl or a boy but the body will make a nice gift for little Agnes if it turns out it is too girly!)

Frida Viola has already accepted her dress - and she is very picky about her clothes at the moment.

They still have some good pieces left on sale.
Enula 9 is another nice shop if you are pregnant or have a newborn - they also have a webshop.
And this pinterest is super nice for all kinds of inspiration.

My Home Today

It has been raining all day and we have mostly been inside, baking cinnamon rolls after a recipe from Sophie.

The pipe cleaner peacock was also from the old lady's sewing table and the gray-blue chair is another very good thrift store find from the other day: An original FDB chair, designed by Folke Pålsson back in the 60s and recently relaunched by HAY - so beautiful and simple. I love the colour that changes from gray to blue depending on the light.

Magnolias from my mom's garden - reminds me about my dad. He loved the magnolia tree.

Have a nice Saturday evening.

What The Old Lady Left

Yesterday, in the local thrift store, I found a sewing table, complete with all the little belongings that an old lady has kept for years. Belongings that speak to me about a different time and make me make up stories about this lady's life. Silk thread, lace, wrapping paper from her engagement rings, measuring tape, pipe cleaner animals, a little handbook on health from Danish Red Cross (from 1944!), Swedish matches and French buttons. Little leftovers from her sewing projects that she has carefully stored throughout decades for an event that might or might not occur. It made me both happy and sad.

Folklore

Box for Secrets

Following the pedagogical principles of Idana Pescioli's Firenze pedagogy each child has a box for little secrets in Frida Viola's kindergarten. Parents and older kids, of course, have been asked to make such a box. I like this idea.

The story is that originally A made a super fine little ladybird box for Frida Viola, painted red with black dots and a little smiling ladybird face on one end. One day then, a little budgie [undulat?] lost it's way into the garden of the kindergarten. One of the pedagogues quickly found a box for the lost bird in order to deliver it at the local police station - and that box was Frida Viola's ladybird box. We like the story about the lost budgie although we also miss the little ladybird. I knew I had to come up with something nice to replace the ladybird and I hope that this house will do it. Frida Viola has mostly been involved in choosing colours and paper and talking about the idea - and I have been doing the cutting and the gluing.
