Women of the Avant-Garde

Yesterday I went to see this exhibition at Louisiana.
Go and see it if you live nearby.

As always the textiles, designs and works by Sonia Delauany caught my eyes - so beautiful. But the beadworks and hand puppets by Sophie Taeuber-Arp and also a couple of hand puppets by Hannah Höch were very pleasant surprises.

Find

Today I was lucky to find one of Marianne Westman's big, beautiful old Picknick platters, originally designed in 1954 for Rörstrand, in the local thrift store. It's in perfect condition and we already used it this evening for herbs and salads for our Vietnamese spring rolls - but it is also beautiful in itself, let alone in the window sill.

Below, another find: A fine little embroidered spectacle case for my sunglasses (today it was snowy again, but I do hope for spring and sunglasses soon!)

And for Vietnam inspiration see this site and programme that a close friend of us produced :)

PLAY

This weekend has been all about playing. We didn't have any appointments at all and it was wonderful just to follow our spontaneous desires. A introduced Toca Boca to Frida Viola, and although I am very restrictive about this kind of "playing" I must admit that I was positively surprised. We have only tried Toca House so far (where you have to vacuum the floor, do the washing up, iron the clothes, mow the lawn etc...), but the other versions look nice as well.

And oh yes, photo 1 is a crochet detail we spotted on a pipe on our walk yesterday - wonder who did it and put it there...

First Signs

The first signs of a change in season are for me snowdrops and more light in the mornings and afternoons. Today we found snowdrops on our way home.

Frida Viola is tired in the afternoon, though - she has started skipping her nap in kindergarten which is both good and difficult.

And a little more...

A little more from the days with my mom: Sewing projects for the baby. Mostly will of course be reused from Frida Viola (that is: reused from my own childhood), but this time I find it nice to make a little new stuff as well.

I love the classic Liberty prints for the little ones.

Visit from mom...

My mom has been here for the last couple of days, and we have been making all kinds of projects - including the blueberry girl costume for Frida Viola.

The little handknitted baby mittens and shoes are old, but my mom made new Liberty ribbon for them. And photo 2 is her delicious pizza with onion jam, potatoes, parsley and olives.
I will show you more tomorrow - it was too dark and rainy for photos this afternoon.

I love days like these!

Shrovetide - Blueberry Girl

So today was the big shrovetide day in Frida Viola's kindergarten. We decided on blueberry girl a long time ago since Frida Viola loves blue and blueberries, and since we have been reading the story about Putte/Peter in Blueberryland intensely lately. My mom helped me finish the dress yesterday.

A little blueberry hat with embroidered leaves.

The dress in itself is very simple and can be used alone afterwards (same model as this one).
 I love the blue color.

The leaves are made as a garland and can be used for other costumes as well. I used a mix of old bits of fabric.

And this is how the costume was received on the first trying - she was excillerated :)
(and I was so happy that se didn't want to be a princess like all the other girls!)

My Home Today

1. I am working on some little leaves for Frida Viola's shrovetide costume - more photos later.
2. Laundry can also be nice looking at.
3. & 4. Never a dull moment with Frida Viola - she is watching Pettson and Findus while playing with masking tape.
5. Wiinblad plaques from my mom - this is November and December and they were given to my mom when she was expecting me, since I was born i December.

Wiinblad's home - beautiful.

And now weekend - have a nice one all of you :)

Looking back

I visited little Agnes and her mom today. Agnes is 3 months now and so adorable.

Below is Frida Viola at the same age - also at that time constantly awake and mischievous.

Sunken Treasure

I love these photos from Sophie Schellenkens studio and apartment in Antwerp. Sophie Schellenks is the designer of Sunken Treasure's fine and playful jewelry. I have been following her blog for at while - and you always find beautiful and simple photos, lots of light and nice inspiration. Her home is the same way and her studio looks like a place where I could easily live...

I found the photos of Sophie's home at another very nice blog, designskool.

Freunde von Freunden is another very nice site found via designskool. In the Interviews section you can scroll through interviews with inspiring people and get a glimps of their surroundings... Like this one or this one...

Bright

Some little dots of color and light from today:
1. More for the baby - also from my childhood.
2. We are still playing with hama beads - this is a co-work.
3. And I am still drinking my coffee from Ursula.
4. A corner with dots of light and a colorful vintage paper rosette.
5. My little collection of Arabia Pomona jars is growing little by little - the one with strawberries and the one with currants being on my wishlist.
6. Frida Viola's butterfly.

I would like this book on my bedside table - take a look at the photos, so beautiful.
Buy it here.
