bathroom update
Sometimes I forget what I already did a post about. Well, this is our new bathroom - and I dont' think I have posted this much from it previously. On the other hand it doesn't matter that much - because I like this room so much and there is a really nice light in there. As you see in the photos we are very slow in finishing details - like hooks and little shelves and cabinets. But it functions, and we like it.
Maybe you recall that we had a lot of considerations about the floor - but after wathching Amour (and I hopelessly fell in love with that huge, beautiful and run-down Parisian apartment and the tiles in the hallway, kitchen etc.), we ended up with these classic and simple tiles in black&white.

take a deep breath
We have passed another period of illness with Molly, and she has been giving me good company at home. Not that I'm not glad to have her around and observe all her little doings but it seems as if she has been ill on-off with colds, coughing and difficult breathing ever since we came home from our summer vacation. Nothing serious but enough to disturb her sleep (as well as ours) and to make her unwell and without energy, and I remember it was the same last winter. So after some considerations back and forth we finally decided to bring her to the doctor this weekend as she had a very difficult time breathing, and as expected we came home with a bag of asthma medication. It came as no surprise to us since both girls have allergies. I can't say that I'm relieved but the medicine has already helped her, and she has had two good nights of sleep, and has started talking and experimenting with words again. I keep my fingers crossed for a good period.
Photos are from the other day where she snapped Frida Viola's pink dog and didn't let go of it for the entire day.
By the way, as you might already have noticed I finally started pinning! I signed up ages ago but really didn't get into it - but then a little while ago I got caught and just as all others of you who are pinning I can only agree that it is quite addictive. Follow me at finurlignet - and do share your own or your favourite pinterest boards with me!

Fabelmageren by Shane Brox
We will go and see this - hardly can't wait. And for those of you who cannot read Danish and are not familiar with Shane, it's a ballet for children with costumes and decorations made by Shane Brox who creates fantastic things, stories and scenarios out of recycled this and that for and with children.
There is a little introduction here.

just a piece of paper
This little book is a thrift store find from the other day with simple and fine inspiration for paper cuts - maybe for dark December afternoons. The author, Elizabeth Brozowska, has done quite many children's books with cute illustrations - but this one is the only I have stumbled across with paper cuts. The book is structured around a narrative, a story about a grandmom who makes Polish paper cuts for her 3 grandchildren, and the kids get inspired to make some themselves. We don't need the story to get inspired but it's a sympathetic way to present little DIY projects.
Originally "Just A Piece of Paper" ["Leg med saks og papir"] by Elisabeth Brozowska, 1969.

box for secrets
The girls have been ill the last couple of days, as a little reminder that the barefooted days are over. We have been reading, baking and watching Pippi over and over again. We also finally finished Molly's 'box of secrets' for her day care. I have piles of old paper scraps which I don't have the heart to get rid of - so what better use than a paper patchwork. I quite like the result and it was almost therapeutic to make it - cutting and gluing without thinking too much. Frida Viola thinks it's a grown up's box, though, and I guess she's right, so I'll have to come up with something else for Molly.

pretending it is still summer
It was like high summer again this weekend. It gave us the feeling of the neverending summer - and it was nice, although we know that very soon it will be over.
The muffins in photo 4 & 5 were good too. With rye, new Danish apples, dates and lots of cinnamon.

Eva Lindström
Today, just a short note with a big recommendation: Go and see Eva Lindström's beautiful-beautiful animated film "Dyrevennerne" ["Animal Friends"] that plays in Cinemateket at the moment - with or without kids!
Frida Viola and I went to see it today - and it was wonderful, poetic, aesthetic, dreamlike and whimsical.
"Dyrevennerne" is a collection of three short narratives for small kids - all with animals as main characters. Swedish author and illustrator Eva Lindström's illustrations and colours are delicate, soft, offbeat and hard not to love, and the soundtrack in the animations just completes the universe. We both liked it very much, and some of Lindström's books are now on our wishlist.
You can see "Dyrevennerne" in Cinemateket next Saturday, via the children's film festival Buster - free of admission!
See a teaser here.
