kiss & hug

Molly is hugging Frida Viola's dolls while she is in kindergarten.
Reminds me of these photos when Frida Viola was just a little older than Molly is now.

Claire Cottrell

I am very much in love with this beautiful and simple place (and not least the garden and the yellow dress). Claire Cottrell lives there and when the photos were taken she had only lived in the house for 10 days. Claire Cottrell is the owner of the fantastic little book shop Book Stand with rare, aesthetic and visually inspiring books. She has a master in landscape architecture and has worked as creative director and filmmaker.
(And her beautiful yellow dress is from Jesse Kamm).

All photos found via Freunde von Freunden, read more about Claire Cottrell.

sweater

I would love that sweater on the photo.

So many nice patterns in this big book on sewing and knitting and all imaginable kinds of crafts from 1961.
Karen Traustedt & Jesper Engelstoft: "Gyldendals Sy & Håndarbejdsbog".

white & grey

February is so grey. A long time ago Sophie from fine dage made me aware of grijs - and that grey can can also be beautiful. Yesterday we found the first snowdrops and soon March will begin.

Have a nice weekend.

3191 - new collections

Always so much beautiful at 3191!

patola & geringsing

I found this little book some while ago in the thrift store. I picked it up mainly because of its beautifully patterned cover, but it turned out to be a real little treasure. It's a museum catalogue from Museum für Völkerkunde in Basel (ethnographic museum) from 1975 about an exhibition of ceremonial weavings from India and Indonesia. The techniques are called Patola (India) and Geringsing (Indonesia) and are explained as a double ikat method that is very complicated and rare. My German is good enough for reading and I love to delve into something so specialized and unique as this.

The authors are Alfred Bühler, Urs Ramseyer and Nicole Ramseyer-Gygi, and the full title is "Patola und Geringsing. Zeremonialtücher aus Indien und Indonesien". The cover is redesigned from a Balinese double ikat weaving from Tenganan.

dolls

Frida Viola loves to play with her dolls at the moment. Her collection has grown quite nice - gifts, hand overs, thrift store finds. And the wardrobe, not to forget, is really impressive and enviable. The dolls have several beautiful handsewn dresses each of them - made with so many fine details and in beautiful fabrics.

Some of the dresses used to belong to my dolls when I was little, made by my grandmom, others are flea finds. I always make sure to look for new items when I visit thrift stores. The cradle below is our latest find. We found it together last Saturday in the local thrift store. My mom had one similar when she was little, and Frida Viola plays with it when we visit her. I have always been in love with this type of cradle.

Journal De Jours à Paris

When I browse this blog I want to go to Paris. No, I not just want to go to Paris - I want to study again, I want to do an internship in another country, I want to live there for a while... The blog is Hermine Van Dijck's from Journal De Jours and she is on an internship in Paris for 5 months.

Next time I go to Paris I'll use her Paris blog as a guide - she points out so many nice places to explore that you won't find in an ordinary guide book.
Maybe you remember Hermine's very beautiful graduation project...?
Right now she is making patterns for an exhibition.

All photos are Hermine's.

Molly is much better. So good to see her smile and hear her "talk" again. And today we found eranthis on our walk - une petite promesse de bonheur :)

Gift Paper Book with prints from the 50s from frankie press looks very nice.

Have a nice weekend!

winter days

It's still winter and cold around here. Every morning a new layer of snow. Frida Viola is up again, but now Molly is sick with both pneumonia and otitis. She is so ill, that poor little thing. My mom sent her the little alpaca scarf to keep her warm, and A bought pink macarones to celebrate that Frida Viola is well again.
The bark baskets are some I found some while ago in the thrift store, very beautiful.
